PS1 Phenomena Daylight Study

A daylighting analysis for "Phenomena", a 2015 runner-up entry for the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Program competition.

In 2015, I contributed to Phenomena, a competition entry for MoMA’s Young Architects Program (YAP) led by architects Benjamin Dillenburger and Michael Hansmeyer.

The program challenged emerging architects to design a temporary outdoor installation for the courtyard of MoMA PS1 in Queens, New York.

Phenomena was intended to be 3D-printed in sandstone was never built. runner-It was runner-up from among the five finalists in the competition.

My role was to conduct the daylighting analysis. This involved setting up the virtual lighting, camera, and material properties in the 3D environment to accurately simulate how natural light would interact with the proposed structure in the PS1 courtyard. With high surface complexity and surface reflections this was primarily a technical challenge.
