Designed an opulent chandalier for Production Designer Philip Barker in 2019 for S3E08 of Discovery.
In the episode, Book travels to his home planet and finds his brother. The chandalier was supposed to signify his brother’s new wealth.
Internally referred to as ‘the jellyfish’, it was made of 3d printed blobs using a Grasshopper script I had developed for a personal project that turns wireframe into a bone-like structure that could print without supports (excluding bed stability/adhesion).
The lamp was made with a mixture of stadard FDM printing with semi-transparent filament and resin-based transparent. These orbs, which we rather resiliant (not brittle, you could drop them!), were later repurposed several times in later seasons.
Once the print workflow was locked, we just let the printers run on various sizes and shapes and they added up like tribbles.
